Lucas Turnbloom, Art Director/Editorial Cartoonist for The Southern Cross, launched a web comic called "Imagine This" (imaginethiscomic.com) and illustrated his first children's book with local journalist Denis Grasska;  they're currently seeking publishers.

Brian Hiro from the North County Times'  sports won the prestigious Eclipse Award for his three-part feature on throughbred racing at Del Mar, one of the biggest awards ever given to a North County Times sports staff writer.

Union-Tribune's staff photographer Crissy Pascual started a new monthly VLOG  for SignOnSanDiego.com called "Walk-In Closet," consisting of short, fun videos she writes, produces, shoots, edits, and hosts.

Maya Kroth, editor of Where San Diego magazine, was honored when a book she co-authored, "MTV Road Trips USA," was awarded Grand Prize at the North American Travel Journalists Association's 15th annual journalism awards.

Emmy Award-winning theater critic Pat Launer is back on the radio airwaves, thanks to a generous, anonymous underwriter. Her new radio home is KSDS Jazz88.3, a broadcast service of San Diego City College . Her weekly theater reviews can be heard every Friday at 9am, at 88.3FM. The reviews are streamed live; they can also be read or listened to, at any time, at jazz88.org.

James Laurin from the Union-Tribune news copy desk took first place at the San Diego Press Club's Excellence in Journalism Awards last November in the Daily Newspapers and Web Sites category for a series of headlines.
