It's a bloggers world

by Lori Weisberg last modified 2008-04-16 14:43

On April 24, come hear what local bloggers have to say about blogging and ethics

As blogging of news and current events becomes more popular, both for writers and for readers, the role of professional journalists and the veracity and reliability of such sources of information increasingly comes into question.

Are bloggers journalists? Do they follow some or any of the same rules? What are the lines can they cross and can't cross? Do they have any responsibility to disclose their biases or agendas? And where will this phenomenon lead us and our profession?

Voiceofsandiego.com editor Scott Lewis will moderate what should be a boisterous discussion of the blogosphere.

Our panel of noted bloggers will feature:

     -         Dave Rolland, editor of San Diego City Beat, www.sdcitybeat.com

   -         Pat Flannery, Blog of San Diego, www.blogofsandiego.com

-         Bradley Fikes, Festering Swamp, www.festeringswamp.com,

staff writer for North County Times

-         Joe Gandelman, editor in chief, www.themoderatevoice.com

 -    Chris Reed, San Diego Union-Tribune editorial writer and author of “America’s Finest Blog,” weblog.signonsandiego.com/weblogs/afb/

The panel on Blogging and Ethics will begin at 7 p.m., preceded by a 6:30 p.m. reception, on Thursday, April 24, at the Union-Tribune building in Mission Valley, first floor auditorium.

RSVP to Jodi Cleesattle,  at Jodi.Cleesattle@doj.ca.gov, or Andrew Kleske, at akleske@ucsd.edu
