A Feb. 15 session will help train media on how to obtain government documents.
A program to train Spanish-language media on how to obtain government documents will be held Feb. 15, 2007. Journalists from San Diego and Mexico will be invited.
It will be sponsored by SPJ’s National Committee on Diversity, and co-sponsored by the local chapter of the California Chicano News Media Association. Hiram Soto, of The San Diego Union-Tribune’s Enlace Spanish-language publication, is serving as special liaison for the program.
The national committee will pay the expenses of an expert on the federal Freedom of Information Act, and pay the cost of translating FOIA materials into Spanish.
The program will also include training on the California Public Records Act and similar legislation in Mexico.
The time and location have not yet been determined. Please check the San Diego SPJ Web site, www.sdspj.org, for further details.
